Dickie Blackford (not to be confused with Richard Blackford) is well-known and respected throughout Yorkshire as a prolific composer of choral, instrumental and orchestral music, influenced by the English pastoral tradition. He also taught music for many years and indeed, taught Tim Knight at York Grammar School, and so when Dick approached Tim to have a look through his catalogue of music that had never been published, Tim leapt at the opportunity to work with his former mentor and fellow Northern Composer.
The piece that immediately stood out from the selection Dick sent to Tim was 'Who can sail', which is a truely enchanting and beautiful Swedish Folk song arranged for SATB Choir and Piano and is now the third piece to be added to our 'Northern Edition Series'.
