Singing Weekend at The Nightingale Centre, Peak District

The Nightingale Centre is in Great Hucklow which is a charming, peaceful little village set under Hucklow Edge in splendid countryside  between the bustling towns of Buxton and Bakewell in the heart of the Peak District National Park in Derbyshire. Over the years the Nightingale Centre has been much developed and extensively modernised, but throughout it has provided a place where groups of people of all ages can meet in a caring, warm and friendly environment allowing everyone who crosses the threshold to benefit from its unique ambience. Although appearing very much 'off the beaten track', the Centre is very accessible by car and there is a direct bus service to the village. Greater Manchester, South Yorkshire and the Midlands are all nearby, together with miles of countryside to explore on bike, foot or car and Chatsworth House is also nearby. We always allow time for our guests to explore the local area, and there are countless things to do here! This location is ideal to tag on a few extra days in the area and make a week of it! We can offer additional rates for any non-singers who might want to come along and just enjoy the area but not participate in the singing sessions.  As always, Tim will lead our singers through an eclectic mix of music in his own fun and approachable style. The programme of music will be tailored to suit the participants on the holiday and encompass choral music in all its forms, from rounds and popular songs, through to more serious classical and sacred pieces. Some experience of singing in parts and ability to sight-read is preferable to get the most out of the weekend. We like to encourage our guests to entertain each other on Saturday evening which is our 'party piece night', although this is entirely optional and can be anything from reciting a poem or anecdote, to playing an instrument, singing etc. If possible, we also like to participate in a local Sunday morning service, which again is optional, but we try to learn some music over the weekend to take along.

Please note: rooms are mainly twins. There are plenty of bathrooms/toilet facilities for non-ensuite rooms. Places are limited so please book early.

Outline of Itinerary:

Friday - 4pm arrival, welcome refreshments, dinner, introductory singing session

Saturday -  Breakfast, singing session, lunch, free time to explore the local area, dinner, 'party piece night'

Sunday - Breakfast, morning singing session (either at the venue or in a local church or chapel), lunch, depart after lunch

Cost includes meals stated in the itinerary above (please note timings and sessions are flexible to suit the groups requirements). A non-refundable deposit of £50.00 is required to secure your place on the holiday. We will send an invoice for further payment(s) when they are due. A full itinerary will be sent in advance of the event. No music will be sent in advance as it is not necessary to learn any pieces in advance.
